Component engineering

Drawing-Based Electrical Contact Components

An electrical contact component combines the current-carrying contact point with the mechanical carrier that positions it inside a relay, switch, contactor or circuit breaker. Common forms include stamped copper or brass terminals, spring blades and bridge parts fitted with contact rivets or contact buttons. The silver alloy provides the working contact face; the carrier provides spring behavior, location, heat flow and the connection to the rest of the circuit.

The complete assembly should be specified as one electrical and mechanical system. Contact material, carrier alloy and temper, strip thickness, formed geometry, hole or weld location, joint method and surface condition can all affect resistance, temperature rise, contact force and production repeatability. A supplier therefore needs the component drawing and switching requirements, not only a photograph of the loose contact point.

From Stamped Carrier to Finished Contact Assembly

A typical manufacturing route includes strip preparation, stamping and forming, deburring or cleaning, contact placement, riveting or welding, and dimensional and electrical inspection. The exact route depends on the drawing and part function. Tooling direction, burr control, deformation around the joint and handling of the working contact surface should be agreed before sample approval.
